Doug has worked in the creative arts for most of his adult life, initially in the publishing industry, doing layout and graphic design, technical writing, and editing. In 2022, he transitioned into the performing arts, initially taking on the role of fund development at The Aeolian Hall, and then props builder and buyer for Port Stanley Festival Theatre.
Background
Doug has long been a fan of live theatre, and in 2023, he was able to successfully make a career move to professional theatrical prop making. He brings a background in design and years of experience as a hobby cosplayer and replica prop builder to his work. Ever conscious of budget and time constraints, Doug is known for a key attention to detail and quick turnaround, no matter the scope of project.
Working closely with the creative crew and technicians, Doug uses his experience and knowledge to bring the creative vision of set designers and directors to life. This includes everything from furniture and set decoration to hand props and fake food.
As props buyer, Doug is also part treasure hunter, using his artistic sensibility and knowledge of design and historic periods to find the perfect artifact or set piece for each production he is involved in.
